Environment Canterbury approved the fare change in July this year, and public transport core service lead councillor Joe Davies said the council was reminding customers of the change ahead of time. Cr Davies said the council had worked to keep the fare increases as minimal as possible.
"We’ve tried to keep costs as low as possible, because we know that even small changes can have an impact on individual and household budgets.
"We’re proud of the services we provide to South Canterbury including our MyWay service which gives customers a lot of flexibility with their travels and is now a permanent fixture. This increase is helping us future-proof our network," he said.
The new fares are:
MyWay fares:
- MyWay adult fare: $3.00
- MyWay child fare: $2.00
- MyWay Community Services card holder fare: $1.50
Temuka-Timaru service:
- Standard fare: $4.50
- Child fare: $3.00
- Community Services card holder fare: $2.20
Timaru school bus child fares will also increase to $1.50. Cash fares will be $1 above the equivalent standard and child fares for Timaru school services and the Temuka-Timaru service.
Free fares for children 0-4 and free off-peak travel for SuperGold card holders will remain.
