A 26-year-old Oamaru man was shot in the leg and less than two hours later a shot was fired at a house while two people were inside it yesterday.
The incidents in South Canterbury occurred just within hours of each other.
The 26-year-old man was taken to Timaru Hospital after sustaining a bullet wound in his thigh at about 4.30pm.
A police media spokeswoman said the man was driven to the emergency department by a friend and police are investigating how the man was injured.
About an hour later police were called to an address at Kennels Road in Washdyke, north of Timaru, after reports a shot was fired at a house. Two people, a man and child according to Fairfax, were in the house but were not hurt.
