The grant, confirmed in the trust’s September funding round, will help fund essential building upgrades including a new roof and windows.
Toko committee member and player Ethan Harrex, who led the funding application, said the clubrooms were an important part of Milton’s community life.
Mr Harrex, who has been involved in sport at Toko’s grounds since 2002 when he was 8, said the club’s long history might have helped strengthen the case for funding.
"The club’s sort of unofficially been around since 1900 — it’s the 125th anniversary this year," he said.
"The building’s been around since the 1950s and been added on to up to the 1970s.
"Besides the rugby club, the rooms are used by the cricket club, the AMP Society, the junior club and schools for sports and events."
Other funders and local efforts including a jersey auction also contributed to the upcoming renovation, which will be carried out by Calder Stewart Ltd.
"They’re looking to start sooner rather than later, and we’re anticipating having the work completed between now and the start of next rugby season," Mr Harrex said.
He praised the trust’s process as straightforward and well supported.
"I found working through OCT’s funding process easy enough ... they have support people that are good at communicating useful points, or if you have any questions," he said.
"We’re obviously grateful to the trust, and thanks, too, to the committee and the general community for their generous time and support."
The $50,000 grant was part of the trust’s $477,110 September funding round supporting 31 organisations across Otago.
This included a $6000 grant to the South Otago Athletic Club to assist with the Cross Recreation Balclutha Half Marathon, and a grant to Milton’s Mt Zion Church to help with its youth group.
"We were delighted to support some fantastic South Otago initiatives and groups in our September funding round," trust chief executive officer Jemma Adams said.
"The Toko rugby clubroom renovation will bring ongoing benefit to the community for years to come, as it will serve multiple sports and social groups in Milton and the wider Tokomairiro area."
