The Clutha district may be somewhat insulated from the rocky national economic road ahead, a business confidence survey has revealed.
The Enterprise Clutha survey for the six months to March showed most of those surveyed believed New Zealand's economic environment would deteriorate in the six months ending September, but most felt the status quo would prevail in the district.
The survey was sent to 501 businesses, but just 82 (16.5%) responded. Enterprise Clutha executive Linda Moore the respondents were a good cross-section.
About 55% of respondents predicted business as usual, 20% felt business would improve and another 20% thought it would decline. About 56% said their staff had joined KiwiSaver, and another 13.5% of employers offered their own superannuation schemes.
