Celebrating culture

The third annual midwinter cultural celebration Puaka Matariki Iwikatea takes place at TPŌMA next Thursday.

Showcasing variety performances from many of Clutha’s cultural groups from 10am, the day is divided into Karaka te ao — "the day calls" and Karaka te pō — "the night calls". Alongside performances there will be market stalls, food vendors, art competition entries on display and Sport Otago running tākaro (Māori games).

Spokeswoman Tiffany Jenks said the day aimed to bring Clutha’s diverse community together for a public celebration.

"The event is a wonderful day of creativity, expression, manaaki and kotahitanga [support and togetherness]." — Allied Media
