This will be the first time the ANZ Championship franchise will play pre-season games in Balclutha and all proceeds from tickets sales will be donated to the Cross Recreation Centre to purchase a range of sports equipment.
The Steel players have been training at the centre during the off-season as it was a good central point for many in the team.
The Otago-Southland Lois Muir team and an invitational side made up of former representative players will provide opposition for the Steel during the two games scheduled.
Steel captain Jodi Brown said the pre-season clash was an ideal opportunity to give something back to the communities the Steel represented.
"We've been training in Balclutha and have experienced first-hand what an amazing facility the new recreation centre is," she said.
Steel marketing and communications manager Kate Buchanan said the team loved training at the centre.
"The girls love it. They all think the floors there are amazing."
Cross Recreation Centre manager Penny Batchelor said she was thrilled the centre would host a team of the Steel's calibre.
"It's huge for us. We are really excited to have the Steel team here and I am sure the game will be well-supported by our community. I've already had people coming in asking when they can get tickets," she said.
Tickets for the games will go on sale on Monday.
The Steel's 2012 ANZ Championship campaign starts on April 2 against the Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic at Stadium Southland in Invercargill.
