They came, they saw and they got their hands dirty, but all for a good cause.

The Clutha mental health team celebrated mental health awareness week yesterday with a promotion encouraging the public to make their mark - literally.

Wet concrete was poured into paver moulds and passers-by asked to press their hands into the wet cement to make handprints for the pavers, which will sit around the front garden of the team's office in central Balclutha.

Occupational therapist Liz Benny said the promotion proved popular and organisers were thrilled to be able to involve the public in promoting mental health awareness.

Looking after mental health was just as important for an individual as looking after physical health.
