Driver taken to hospital after car rolls

Emergency services (below) attend to a woman trapped inside her rolled vehicle in a Catlins paddock yesterday afternoon.

The accident happened about 4.30pm, on a bend at the intersection of Port Molyneux Rd and Owaka Highway, in Romahapa.

The woman’s silver Mazda left the road before rolling through a stand of toetoes into a neighbouring paddock.

Three fire appliances, two ambulances, police and the Otago Rescue Helicopter attended.

The police officer in charge at the scene, Sergeant Samuel Morris, of Balclutha, said it was too early to determine the cause of the accident, although alcohol did not appear to be a factor.

Sgt Morris said the driver, the sole occupant, appeared to have only minor injuries, but was taken to hospital for further assessment.
