
"You’ve got to stay busy to stay sharp," the 93-year-old great-grandmother of (almost) eight said.
Mrs Latta walks — and drives — the talk, shuttling elderly neighbours and many friends to errands, events and clubs, including Women’s Institute, Owaka Rugby Club, the Horticultural Society, Town & Country and RSA.
"I’m a mother of five and I was a farmer’s wife — always hosting and organising things ... There’s no point trying to imagine what it might be like if I couldn’t do it any more."
Surprised at her nomination and praising Silver Fern Farms for their encouragement, she had advice for getting involved with community spirit:
"You’ve got to take the initiative — they won’t come to you. But if you approach them with your best foot forward, you’ll find people and organisations very welcoming and grateful."
