Several crashes in the Clutha District have prompted a warning from police for drivers to be mindful of the icy conditions.
Senior Constable Tanya Grant, of Balclutha, said with the onset of winter weather, police have been busy attending crashes across the district.
Seven crashes have been reported over the past week, due to slippery and wintry conditions.
Three crashes occurred near Clinton, two near Milton and one each at Owaka and Clydevale.
Snr Const Grant said it was time for a "friendly reminder" for travellers to take extra care when driving in winter conditions.
As the wet, frosty or icy roads can be "very slippery", drivers needed to increase their following distance.
She recommended increasing the following distance by using the "four-second rule".
Roads become very slippery after it starts to rain and remain so until any oil has been washed off the road.
Snr Const Grant said visibility was reduced by rain, snow or fog and could increase the risk of a crash.
"To improve visibility, keep all windows and mirrors clean. Don’t let windows fog up."
She also recommended drivers put their vehicle lights on so they are easier to see by others on the road.
Flooding signs were out at Burning Plains Road in Clydevale and at Toko Mouth/Elliotvale Roads in Milton, the Clutha District Council said today, and drivers should take care.
