The home invasion happened late last month and is believed to have followed an incident at a party.
Police said they were called on April 20 after a group entered the Springfield St house in the early hours of April 19 and assaulted the two people inside.
Springfield St is in the northern part of Balclutha.
It appeared the alleged offenders knew the victims, police said.
Police inquiries had led to four men being arrested.
All four, aged 18, 19, 21 and 29, faced a mix of charges of assault with intent to injure, common assault and burglary.
Two charges of impedes breathing by strangulation, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years’ imprisonment, were also laid, police said.
The 21- and 29-year-old would make their first appearances in the Dunedin District Court tomorrow.
The 18- and 19-year-old had already had their first appearances in court, but police did not say what happened.
The 18-year-old was due to appear a second time on May 21, and the 19-year-old on May 19, police said.
