
The inaugural Black Gold Kai Club Matariki Recyclable Arts Competition, held in the Kaitangata War Memorial Hall, was hailed as a success by organisers.
About 30 people entered the event, with materials ranging from milk bottles and shower curtains, to corrugated roofing tin and aluminium cans.
The event was judged by South Otago High School teacher Helen Williams and South Otago Theatrical Society costume designer and maker Colleen Christie.
It was compered by Kaitangata musician Aaron Jury.
Results were. - Age 18-plus section, New Beginnings: Cantastic by Jean Proctor 1; Dairy Fairy by Robyn Hale 2; Knitted Wear by Sandra Marshall 3. Mata Ariki (Eyes of God), Atuahine-Daughter of the Stars by Kez Bizarre 1; Crosstin the Defender by Tony Somerville 2.
Age 14 to 17 section, with the theme From the Dark: Looks Like a Fairy but is a Butterfly by Jessie Marsh (1).
Preschool section, theme Matariki: Kaitangata Playcentre (1); Rosebank Kindergarten (2).
And 5-year-olds to 9-year-olds section: Mask with the theme Stars and/or Kites: April Bonney (1); Kian Shore (2); Holly Storer (3).
