"Rod is a community-minded person who gives his time — and his gift of the gab — generously," his nominator said.
Mr Deverson had volunteered for the Balclutha Junior Football club for 10 years, including several years as president and had given hundreds of hours for meetings and at the sideline on freezing mornings.
He was also well known as an organiser of the Balclutha Park Run, and had served on Rosebank School’s board of trustees for six years.
"I think the community is built on small acts of regular people who find the time to help and volunteer," Mr Deverson said.
"If we all put in a little, we'll see how it grows."
