Mayor looking to buy

Clutha Mayor Bryan Cadogan had a "good look around" as a potential buyer at an open day for the developing Plantation Heights subdivision in Balclutha recently.

Those who indicated an interest or right to purchase one of the 64 sections available in the subdivision in north Balclutha were able to take part in a "walk-over" or open day held earlier this month.

The mayor attended but instead of hosting and helping out, he was "on the other side, looking as a prospective purchaser".

"I was on the other side of the fence that day," Mr Cadogan said.

He and his wife, Allyson, were "considering" purchasing a section in the subdivision but were holding back to see if someone else was interested in the section they wanted.

"Why not get in on something positive? I believe in the district."

Mr Cadogan said the view from the subdivision which overlooked Balclutha was still impressive.

The positive chatter at the open day was "flowing on through".

"It’s something we can be proud of as a district," Mr Cadogan said.

Construction work on the Plantation Heights subdivision is expected to be completed some time in May.

Mr Cadogan said the project was running to schedule.

Clutha District Council chief executive Steve Hill said about 45 people attended the open day.

The mayor and mayoress both had a good look around, Mr Hill said.

About half of those who attended had registered for a "first right to make an offer" on the sections.

There was no negative feedback from the public.
