Response pleases St John

Recent moves by Clutha St John to find more volunteer ambulance officers resulted in five responses, which it hopes will result in the assignment of much-needed staff.

The organisation, with backing from Clutha Mayor Juno Hayes, recently launched a public drive to find new members to fill several vacant positions in the ambulance service.

Operations team manager Graham Harvey said it received five responses and those were now being processed, with the hope some or all could lead to the assignment of new volunteers.

"It's still a work in progress, but we have got a response which is encouraging. Now we just have to work our way through the process."

The order needed a volunteer roster of about 18 officers but had only about 12 names on its list to date.

Mr Harvey hoped the recent responses to the campaign would see that tally rise closer to the number needed.

Mr Harvey said the campaign was ongoing and anyone wanting to volunteer for a role would be warmly welcomed.
