The Kaitangata Primary School's new hall-gymnasium complex was officially opened last week.
Clutha-Southland MP Bill English opened the venue and the oldest and youngest pupils planted a tree to mark the occasion.
The new complex replaces the old gymnasium - officially opened in 1904 by the then prime minister Richard John Seddon - which was demolished last week.
The community was well represented at the opening and the kapa haka group and school performed items for the event.
Board of trustees chairman Mr Stewart Morrison and principal Mrs Joyce Beck both agreed all the hard work and extra meetings were well worth the effort and were delighted with the finished product.
