Small grants in community plan

A series of small yet vital grants have been included in the Clutha District Council's draft long-term council community plan, with communities from Taieri Mouth to Lawrence set to benefit.

The coastal settlement of Taieri Mouth is poised to get $20,000 to help the Taieri Mouth Amenities Society build a boat ramp, while plans to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Lawrence in 2011 will get a $15,000 helping hand.

The council had earlier planned to spend this money in the 2011-12 year but the council agreed to bring the grant forward to better fit in with the planned celebrations.

Other grants kept in the plan include:$10,000 a year for three years to the Clutha Gold Trail Charitable Trust towards the development of the Roxburgh-Lawrence Trail.

Continued support of the Gore Women's Refuge beyond 2009-10 ($7650 a year).

Grants of $4000 in 2009-10 (reducing to $2000 in 2010-11 and $1000 in 2011-12) for South Otago Victim Support to bring a youth development programme to the district.

The council confirmed an annual budget of $4000 to fund half the cost of new camper van effluent dump sites where appropriate, and an additional $2000 in 2009-10 to address maintenance issues.
