Working as a public servant for the Ministry of Fisheries for more than 30-years, Wallacetown man Stephen Logie does not expect "this sort of thing", but his services to Fisheries has been recognised with the Queen's Service Medal.

"I am totally blown away by the award . . . it has taken me by surprise," he said.

The 51-year-old said growing up in the coastal settlement of Riverton fuelled his interest in fisheries, and he began working for the Ministry of Fisheries in 1979.

During his career as a fisheries officer Mr Logie worked to protect inshore and deepwater fisheries and played an active role with a group of volunteers interested in developing a Fiordland Marine Conservation Strategy.

"Throughout my career I have been blessed and enabled by dedicated colleagues and a supportive wife and family."

As well as promoting fisheries regulation, Mr Logie continues to co-ordinate an inter-agency enforcement team and compliance programme for the Fiordland Marine Area.

"I work in the public service. I don't expect this sort of thing. I am just quietly doing what I am doing."
