Spike in rural burglaries

A run of rural burglaries have kept Southern police busy over the past week.

Senior Sergeant Trevor Thomson, of Dunedin, said a Honda Fourtrax quad-bike and a Suzuki DZR250 two-wheeler were taken from a property in Macrocarpa Rd, between Kaitangata and Wangaloa, sometime between Thursday and Monday.

Further north, hunting gear, electronics and cash were burgled from a property in Wellington St, Weston on Tuesday between 6am and 8am, Snr Sgt Thomson said.

Also reported to police this week was the burglary of a 20- litre tin of petrol from the garage of a farm in Millers Rd, near Dunedin Airport at Momona.

Snr Sgt Thomson said police were appealing for the public's help to track down a blue Mazda Familia sedan, registration CCY502, stolen while parked near the Waihola Highway.
