The Kaitangata woman received the surprise of her life yesterday when the Mucking In television series, fronted by Jim Mora, arrived at her workplace, the Balclutha Link Centre, to reveal her garden will get a total makeover.
More than 100 family, friends and supporters crammed the centre to await Mrs Pain's arrival.
Everyone said it was Balclutha's best-kept secret.
Mrs Pain shed a few tears when she saw the crowd and television cameras.
"I'm not often speechless," she said moments after realising what was happening.
Earlier in the day, the large crowd filmed a segment on the banks of the Clutha River near the Balclutha bridge.
Mrs Pain was nominated by two colleagues, Raewyn Gray and Allison Willocks, who said she deserved recognition for her work in both mental health and with youngsters at the Clutha Country Music Club.
Mrs Gray said Mrs Pain was a tireless worker in mental health circles and provided valuable guidance for aspiring country music singers.
"There is no-one who deserves this more than Trish," she said.
The nomination was lodged more than a year ago but the series stopped screening for a time and there was concern Mrs Pain would not get the helping hand in her garden.
All that changed recently when producers contacted her to say her nomination had been accepted.
Mrs Pain was deliberately distracted by her bosses around morning tea time while friends and family gathered at the centre.
She received loud applause and cheers when she walked through the doors, with television cameras covering every move and reaction.
Mr Mora, producers and landscape designers took Mrs Pain to her garden later in the morning so they could see what she wanted done and how best to achieve an outcome she would be happy with.
Producers said the film crew and workers would return for the makeover in mid-December.
The episode will screen in the new year.
