A young family was being comforted after escaping a house fire on State Highway 1 at the southern end of Balclutha today.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said they were alerted to the fire about 3.10pm
Crews arrived to find the back of the wooden house fully involved in flames.
The Fenz spokesman said appliances attended from Balclutha, Kaitangata, Kaka Point and Milton.
He said by about 4pm the blaze was "easing and under control".
He said ambulance had been called to the scene, but confirmed the occupants had made it safely out of the house.
