It was wonderful to see so many members of our community attending, particularly younger people alongside their parents and grandparents.
Seeing the next generation taking part in these commemorations is something very special and a reminder that those who fought and lost their lives for our country will never be forgotten.
The board also hopes residents took the opportunity to have their say on the Clutha District Council long-term plan by making submissions or sharing ideas.
Community feedback is an important part of shaping the future of our district, and it is encouraging to see people taking an interest in local decision-making.
On a lighter note, the new frisbee golf course at Hancox Park in Tapanui is now officially open.
This is a fantastic outdoor sporting activity for young and old alike and another great addition to our district’s recreational facilities.
Frisbees are available to hire from the Tapanui Dairy, so we encourage people to get out and give it a try.
We would like to extend a warm welcome to several new residents who have recently moved into the district, with a number of homes sold in Tapanui to people from outside the area.
We hope you quickly feel at home here and encourage you to get involved in the many sporting and community clubs throughout West Otago.
One of the strengths of our district is the welcoming, safe and supportive community spirit that makes this such a great place to live.
Dairy farmers will be moving cattle throughout the district this month and it’s a useful reminder for people to be cautious and patient on the roads if they come across herds of cattle getting moved to grazing.
We only have three stock effluent dump sites in the Clutha district, those being Raes Junction, Clinton, and Moneymore, south of Milton.
I’d encourage all farmers to manage their livestock appropriately prior to transport to minimise any mess.
And to all drivers, take care as we enter foggier, frostier winter months.
Please remember to put your headlights on in poor visibility, which allows other drivers to see you, and helps keep us all safe.
A special acknowledgement should go to the volunteers involved in the working bee held at Black Gully Domain on May 10.
Nestled below the Blue Mountains, Black Gully Domain is something of a hidden gem in our area.
With its cabins, caravan park, swings, slides and other facilities for families, it continues to be a wonderful asset for locals and visitors alike.
The ongoing work of volunteers is vital in helping maintain and improve the domain, and their efforts are very much appreciated.
The community board thanks everyone who contributes to making West Otago such a vibrant and connected community.
