Police have appealed for information relating to the attack, which occurred in Lanark St, Balclutha about 2am on Sunday, May 17.
About 400 people from Clutha Rugby Club were celebrating the club’s 150th jubilee at the nearby Te Pou Ō Mata-Au — Clutha District War Memorial & Community Centre earlier that night.
The Otago Daily Times understands the occupants of the vehicle were from Milton.
Clutha area response manager Senior Sergeant Robin Hutton, said police were dispatched to Clyde St, near Lanark St, after reports a large group was fighting and vehicles were doing burnouts.
‘‘It is reported that the altercation started in Clyde St outside a community centre, where one of the vehicles — believed to have four occupants — has been driven intentionally towards groups of pedestrians, narrowly missing several people before ultimately striking a person in Lanark St,’’ Snr Sgt Hutton said.
‘‘The victim sustained moderate injuries, which required medical treatment,’’ he said.

Mr Sheppard said the club members had not instigated the incident, which was unprovoked.
‘‘This is a very disappointing thing to happen in your community, irrespective of where people have been or come from.
‘‘In no way is it rugby-related.’’
Mr Sheppard said he understood the individual struck by the car was recovering well.
Police said they had seized the vehicle involved, but were still making inquiries and seeking further information from the public.
