A vehicle was deliberately driven at pedestrians before a person was hit and injured in Balclutha, police say.

Senior Sergeant Robin Hutton yesterday said witnesses were being sought after a person was struck during a late-night disorder incident last month.

Police responded to Clyde St, near Lanark St, about 2am on Sunday, May 17 after reports that a large group was fighting and vehicles were doing burnouts.

Snr Sgt Hutton said the altercation started on Clyde St outside a community centre where one of the vehicles — believed to have four occupants — was ‘‘intentionally driven’’ towards groups of pedestrians, narrowly missing several people, before striking a person on Lanark St.

‘‘The victim sustained moderate injuries which required medical treatment.’’

Snr Sgt Hutton said police had executed search warrants in the Balclutha area and the vehicle involved had been seized.

‘‘Police continue to follow positive lines of inquiry to identify the driver and occupants of the vehicle.’’

Police wanted to hear from anyone in the area at the time — between 1.40am and 2am — who witnessed the incident, or who might have been driving through and had dashcam footage. — Allied Media
