Now that various funding cheques have arrived in the post, a long-awaited upgrade at the Balclutha Golf Club has begun.

The club embarked on a $155,000 development programme which included a new tractor, coring machine and irrigation pipes.

The project has been two and a-half years in the planning, club president Ray Applegarth said.

"It is important that if we are to continue to be recognised as one of the major golf clubs in Otago, that we have a quality all-weather facility suitable for regional tournaments."

Mr Applegarth said the chance to improve the course would ensure it had a facility that will meet the needs of members and visitors for the immediate future.
