Police are advising residents to keep their homes and cars locked when unattended and to report any suspicious behaviour following several burglaries at the weekend.
Constable Blair Corlett said a person attempted to break in to a North St, Clinton, home about 8am on Sunday.
The occupant of the house was at home, but the offender took items from outside the house and from a car on the property.
It was believed the same person was then seen breaking into the nearby Clinton School, Const Corlett said.
Police want to hear from anyone who saw a person wearing a dark hooded jacket or sweatshirt and dark pants near the school on Sunday.
