If you can’t stand the heat: Ernie Horsman has a Gordon Ramsay meltdown in preparation for the ‘‘ F-Word ’’ fundraiser on July 7.
Lumsden residents and supporters of Northern Southland College will be in for a treat on Monday, July 7 when they attend ‘‘The F-Word'' fundraiser at the Mossburn Community Centre for the school's upcoming Australian sports tour next month.

The evening is based on infamous chef Gordon Ramsay's television show of the same name and promises to be a delicious meld of fine dining served with a generous helping of belly laughs on the side.

The evening is the brainchild of the school's fundraising committee and Ernie Horsman, departing proprietor of the Mayfly Cafe in Lumsden.

Mr Horsman is a big supporter of the community and will be donating his time, chef's expertise and theatrical skills to the evening.

Although details of the menu are being tightly guarded, Mr Horsman has revealed strong local favours will be at the forefront of meals with produce sourced mainly from the area combined in a ‘‘continental style''.

Mr Horsman stressed that he definitely did not treat his staff in the same way that Gordon Ramsay did, but for the sake of entertainment said ‘‘to expect some fireworks in the kitchen''.

Pupils of Northern Southland College, who are helping in the kitchen and providing waiting service for the evening may find themselves nervous at this prospect, but school principal Tom Clark will be in the hot seat for the ‘‘cookoff''.

The savoury mince dish that both men will be preparing in front of the audience will then be judged by diners.

Pam Read, of the fundraising committee, said ticket sales had been ‘‘steady so far'' and, coupled with other fundraising, , they were nearing ‘‘the three-quarter mark'' of the trip's cost.

Hockey, football, netball and rugby teams from the school will tour the Gold Coast accompanied by parents and teachers from the school.

Ernie and Fiona Horsman, who were proprietors of the Mayfly Cafe on Diana St for seven years, sold the business to Melissa Hemphill who took over this week.
