A 40-year-old Invercargill man will face assault and firearms charges after an armed offenders squad call-out on Saturday.
Senior Sergeant Dave Raynes, of Invercargill, said the squad was called to Wilfrid St, Invercargill about 5pm, after a domestic incident.
A "distraction device" was used before entering the house, which was clearly heard by residents in the area, he said.
A loaded sawn-off shotgun was found at the property and, after further inquiries, the 40-year-old man was located at another property in Mary St and taken into custody.
The man will appear in the Invercargill District Court today facing charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and assault on a female, Snr Sgt Raynes said.
A female received minor injuries in the incident.
