Crash stops fleeing driver from escaping police

A fleeing driver was arrested in Invercargill last night after he crashed into another vehicle while attempting to evade police.

A police spokeswoman said police attempted to stop a vehicle about 8.30pm at the intersection of Tramway Rd and Dyson St in South City.

“The driver of the vehicle attempted to flee and immediately crashed into another vehicle.”

A short pursuit, the time between the vehicle being stopped and the offender being arrested was less than a minute.

The 22-year-old man was charged with driving in a dangerous manner and failing to stop, no injuries were reported.

He is due to appear in Invercargill District Court today
