Children throughout Gore are taking a jaunt down the garden path on the trail of fairies and goblins this week.

The Enchanted Parks Quest is the Gore District Council’s take on Parks Week, a national event being celebrated in Gore for the first time.

Each day, participants are given clues to track down miniature doors hidden in 11 park areas throughout the Gore district.

Nicholas Reti and his brothers, of Gore, had found three doors so far, but no magical creatures.

"They’re probably inside," Nicholas said.

"They only come out at night."

Events co-ordinator Mishel Kaaplan said the event was all about getting Gore area people into
their local parks.

"Families have really got into it," Miss Kaaplan said.

At noon yesterday, 514 people were connected to the event on social media.

"Seeing people getting out, that’s the best bit ... seeing all the kids’ happy faces."

The "amazing" doors were the handiwork of people at Gore High School and IDEA Services, she said.

Parks and recreation manager Ian Soper said the council had intended to hold its first Parks Week event last year but the Covid-19 pandemic prevented that.

After this year’s success, the council was consdering what it could do next year.
