In a special ceremony at the station, Mossburn chief fire officer Stephen Trusler and the 24 volunteers were presented with the keys to a nearly new tanker by Meridian Energy.
Before the presentation, Mr Trusler said he was very grateful to Meridian, who bought the truck as a part of its fire safety programme during the construction of the White Hill wind farm.
Meridian external relations adviser Clair Shaw said the truck was not needed now construction had finished.
Mr Trusler said the new truck was much better than their previous one - for a start, diesel would be cheaper to run than the existing petrol truck.
Given the large area covered by the brigade - as far north as Garston, west towards Te Anau, around Lumsden and Wreys Bush to the south - there will be some significant savings.
The tanker also has more water capacity, new pumps, hoses and backpacks, which will make it better for fighting large plantation blazes.
He said the old tanker would probably be allocated elsewhere by the Southland District Council.
Mrs Shaw said the new truck was a 1983 Bedford and was used by Meridian from August 2005 until the work was completed at the start of this month.
The keys were presented to the Mossburn volunteers by Meridian's wind farm project manager Paul Wilson.
