Four seriously injured in Southland crashes

Six people have been injured, three seriously, in a crash in Mossburn this evening, the second serious crash in or near the Southland town today.

A police spokeswoman said they were called to the intersection of Holmes St and State Highway 94 (Te Anau-Mossburn Highway) at 5.55pm, after reports of a crash between a ute and a van.

The driver of the van was seriously injured, and everyone else in the van had a range of injuries, she said.

A St John spokesman said six people were injured and two helicopters were dispatched.

Two of the seriously injured patients were flown to Dunedin Hospital and one was flown to Southland Hospital.

The remaining three patients were taken to Southland Hospital by road.

A tow truck was requested for the van.

Earlier, one person was seriously injured in a crash involving a tractor and a pushbike at the intersection of SH94 and Christie Rd about 4.50pm.

A St John spokesman said one person - the cyclist - was airlifted to Dunedin Hospital with serious injuries.
