Jaws of life used to free occupant in Southland crash

One person has been flown to hospital by helicopter in a serious condition after a crash in Southland.

Firefighters used the jaws of life cutting gear to extricate a person from an upside-down utility vehicle on the Wyndham-Mokoreta Rd after a single vehicle crash at 12.43am today, a Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said.

The person was flown to Dunedin Hospital by the Otago Rescue Helicopter, from the crash site, in the Redan area, about 10kms east of Wyndham, he said.
