Winton fire crews responded to a midnight 111 call to find a home's kitchen ablaze in the rural Southland town.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand supervisor Lyn Crosson said the volunteer brigade were called at 12.15am to a property in Meldrum St.
They found a ''wee kitchen fire'' before extinguishing it and cleaning up the home, she said.
Police were called to secure the property but the blaze was ''nothing suspicious,'' Ms Crosson said.
