One person has been airlifted to Dunedin Hospital in a critical condition following a crash in Dipton, north of Invercargill.
Police and St John ambulance crews Dipton-Winton Highway shortly after 11am today.
One car had careened off the road and into a nearby field, leaving the driver with broken bones.
The solo occupant was flown to hospital by a St John helicopter.
The crash comes near the end of a weekend in which eight people died around the country.
