Principal of Gore Main School resigns

The principal of a Gore school at the centre of an employment dispute has resigned according to a letter sent to the school’s employees.

The letter to staff at the Gore Main School by the limited statutory manager Cleave Hay was sent to employees on Tuesday night.

Mr Hay advised staff principal Mary Miller “has resigned as principal to take up a new opportunity elsewhere” and the role will be filled by deputy principal Kath Russell until a replacement was found.

The letter also detailed Mr Hay’s role further in the situation, which saw him put in place on Monday by the Ministry of Education.

“My role is to support the board of trustees with particular focus areas of employment, policy and communications,” he said in the letter.

He also said his role was “not in the management of the school” and “all day to day matters” as well as “existing communications and concerns and complaints procedures” would be remain in place as normal.

Mr Hay said he would be meeting with the school on Monday to explain more information on his appointment.
