Covid has steamrolled another Wanaka event — the 32nd Wanaka Autumn Art School.
The popular art school has been postponed from April to October and has been renamed the Wanaka Spring Art School for this year.
Spokeswoman Robyn van Reenen said uncertainty about holding events in the pandemic environment had forced the organisers to reschedule.
"A lot of our regular participants hadn’t enrolled and we think that is because they were waiting to see what else was going to happen.
"Covid is taking off in the area and we just felt that hopefully we might be over the hump [in October] but we couldn’t leave it to the last minute to make a decision. We had to make a decision now," Mrs van Reenen said.
The art school has only been cancelled once, in 2020 when Covid-19 first appeared.
About 230 people usually attend the event.
Participants have the option to withdraw or hold their registrations for the new dates of October 10-14.
The same programme will be offered in October, with just one textile arts tutor unavailable.
The school will search for a replacement tutor. The venue — Mount Aspiring College — remains unchanged.
Full refunds would be paid until March 31, Mrs van Reenen said.
Registrations would be reopen again in July, she said.
