Injured tramper airlifted to hospital

A tramper has been airlifted to Dunedin Hospital after sustaining serious injuries in Mount Aspiring National Park this afternoon.

A police spokeswoman said police were advised at 2.15pm that a tramper had an injury and was in need of assistance.

The call was made by the tramper's guide and a helicopter was called to airlift them out, she said.

St John spokesman Gerard Campbell said the helicopter, from Queenstown, had transported the patient to Dunedin Hospital's emergency department.

There were no further details at this stage, he said.
