Nasa hopes the weather will align for the launch of its super pressure balloon tomorrow morning.

It will be the space agency's sixth attempt at launching the 532,000cu m balloon this year since the launch window opened on March 25.

Flight preparations will begin in the early hours and Nasa's super pressure balloon team will continue to evaluate real-time and forecast weather conditions throughout the morning.

Weather permitting, liftoff is scheduled for between 8am and 11.30 am

An attempt was aborted late on Monday morning due a westerly wind shift.

Easterly winds are needed for a successful launch.

If the launch goes ahead, a section of State Highway 6 between Luggate and the Wanaka Airport will be closed for up to an hour, between 8am and 11.30am

A detour will be in place through Hawea Flat.

The public can view the launch from the top of Mt Iron, from the Hawea Flat side of the Clutha River, and atop the hill on the Kane Rd side of the Luggate Red Bridge.
