The Luminaries cast and crew, including director Claire McCarthy and actors Richard Te Are, who plays Te Rau Tauwhare, an Arahura Valley greenstone hunter, and Himesh Patel (right), who plays Emery Staines, at work at Crooked River, near Lake Brunner.

A scene was also shot at Lake Kaniere on Saturday as filming for the BBC screen adaptation of the Man Booker Prize-winning book wrapped up on the West Coast.

Producer Lisa Chatfield said shooting for the series ended on a high, despite some last-minute location changes because of last week's storm.

The scene shot at Crooked River was originally intended for the Arahura River. However, access to the area was washed out.

Dorothy Falls - which were completely washed out - were also scouted for some location shooting. However, Ms Chatfield said they found an "amazing location" at Lake Kaniere on day 2 with the help of local residents.
