A man is helping police with their inquiries, following a fatal brawl on the West Coast overnight.
Police found a middle-aged man dead after being called to a house in Kumara, 25km south of Greymouth, about 12.45am.
Inspector John Canning said several people at the house had been spoken to and one was was still helping with inquiries.
He confirmed that the dead man lived in Kumara.
