Two in hospital after Hokitika microlight crash

Two men have been taken to hospital after their microlight crashed at Hokitika on the West Coast.

It appeared the aircraft crashed as it was taking off from Hokitika Airport on Saturday morning, a police spokeswoman says.

One of the men suffered serious injuries and was flown to Christchurch Hospital, while the other's injuries were moderate and he was taken to nearby Greymouth Base Hospital.

The Civil Aviation Authority has been notified of the crash, the spokeswoman said.

Flights are now arriving and departing as normal again.
