Environment Southland harbourmaster Conrad Adams said the regional council had received reports of logs being seen in the water that were likely dislodged by recent big tides.
"They’re floating on or just below the water line and have been seen throughout the lower Ōreti River, which is a popular spot for summer water activities.
"It’s a timely reminder to river users to be aware that conditions change with tides and after heavy rainfall."
