Southland man charged with selling cocaine

A Southland man accused of drug dealing in January has been hit with more serious charges, a court has heard.

The man, who has name suppression, now faces 11 charges including supplying cocaine, which has a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

He was before the Invercargill District Court yesterday to argue permanent name suppression but, due to the new charges, the hearing was postponed.

The man is charged with possessing 84g of cocaine and 1.5kg of ecstasy for supply and 500g of ketamine for sale in Auckland in June last year.

Then, a month later in Invercargill, he is accused of supplying cocaine.

He is also accused of cultivating cannabis in his Southland home in January and possessing it for sale.

Yesterday, crown prosecutor Mike Brownlie said the reason the process had taken so long was because of the weighing and testing of the drugs.

Bail continues for the man who will reappear on September 9. — Allied Media
