A person is dead after a hit-and-run incident in Te Anau this morning.
Police said emergency services responded to a crash involving a car and a pedestrian, outside a business in the town, about 8.45am.
They initially said the person had been taken to hospital with serious injuries, but in an update this evening they advised the person had died.
They said the driver of the vehicle involved left the scene, "and police would now like to speak to them".
"Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the incident, or anyone who has dashcam footage of the crash, or the moments before it."
The crash closed the Town Centre road, near Mokonui St, for a time.
The Serious Crash Unit had been notified.
