Invercargill’s Seriously Good Chocolate Company owner Jane Stanton has created special Daffodil Day-themed chocolates to raise funds for the Southern Cancer Society.
Being a cancer survivor herself, Ms Stanton said she was motivated to return the help to the charity which had made a positive impact on her recovery.
"I just really wanted to support the Cancer Society, [because] they were amazing to me when I had my issues," she said.
"I used to go next door to . . .dress my wounds and things so I could carry on working.
"Southland .. . and the Cancer Society has been so good to me."
Ms Stanton, with the help of her staff member Heather Soper, designed the fruity flavours for the chocolates.
The proceeds raised from the chocolate sales made not just a financial difference to the Southern Cancer Society but also made a direct impact on the users of the charity.
Southern Cancer Society manager Gavin Booth said the collaboration with the business made a difference in the community.
"Jane coming on board as a partner is a good example of how we are all in this together," Mr Booth said.
"Her generosity is giving us sustainable funding to help those people as demand increases for us."
The Southern Cancer Society was hopeful other organisations might follow in Ms Stanton’s footsteps and get involved in fundraising activities for Daffodil Day.
Southern Cancer Society communities and marketing specialist Helen Pickering said Southlanders were generous and the society was encouraged by how the community got behind the charity.
"I’ve been absolutely blown away by the support that we’ve received from Southland," Ms Pickering said.
"It’s just been heartwarming . . . how generous and kind people have been, when it came to putting up their hand to raise awareness and money for the day."
The Daffodil Day chocolates are available to buy at The Seriously Good Chocolate Company and Ballantynes in Invercargill Central.
Daffodil Day is on August 29.
