The St Andrew’s Fair this weekend promises lots of bargains and cheese rolls, organisers say.

Fair convener Margaret Martyn said this year’s offerings would include baking, plants, vegetables, accessories and knitting and the ever popular white elephant section.

The white elephant stand is full of second-hand steals, Ms Martyn said.

The items come from people’s homes, including those who were downsizing, organiser Jan Prattley said.

"So people will get some good bargains here."

Organiser Joy Carter said it was quite interesting each year to see what people came away with.

Ms Prattley will be supplying cheese rolls which can be bought in packs to take home.

When asked for her recipe, she said it was a secret she did not tell, but it included mustard and onion soup mix, as some find fresh onion too strong.

The proceeds of the fair go back into funding the St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Ms Martyn said.

All the fair’s operators will be members of the parish.

The event is cash only and starts at 10am on Saturday.

Ms Carter said it was best you bring a bag.

Books and puzzles as well as home-made jams and pickles will also be sold.

Some home-made tomato soup preserved in jars was already at the church — a perfect accompaniment to a freshly toasted cheese roll.
