Members past and present will be flocking to Mataura as the centenary celebrations boast a full weekend to honour the long-lasting volunteer organisation.
A registration and get-together was held last night to open the celebrations, to be followed by photoshoots today and a formal dinner involving all past and present members.
The United Fire Brigades’ Association (UFBA) honours night will then be held, where members will be presented with awards in recognition of their service to the community, with a casual cleanup and lunch tomorrow to tie a bow on the historic event.
It will also be run in combination with the "Motoring Mad" event, and the fire brigade will have a presence at the car show, which is also happening tomorrow.
It is not only a weekend of recognition, but also one of remembering history, with a revised history book of the station also being presented to memorialise the occasion, following on from the previous version for the 75th anniversary.
Centenary committee chairman Neville Phillips said it was a remarkable feat to compile stories, names and the history, with former volunteer and life member Robin South taking up the task.
"They stood up and took the arduous task of rewriting the book. It’s been a mission — it’s unbelievable the amount of hours they’ve spent doing that.
"I don’t think people understand the research and work — he’s done a very, very good job," he said.
Mr Phillips thanked all the other committee members, such as treasurer Brent Herbert, for all the hard work doing up the station and preparing for the weekend.
