The 14-year-old broke Otago records in four age-grades as she won the under-16 Otago steeplechase championships at the Caledonian Ground on Saturday.
That win was virtually guaranteed — she was the only one in the 2000m race.
However, the Ariki athlete’s time of 7min 36.15sec broke the record in the 14, 15, 16 and 17 years age groups.

Caversham’s Michelle Watt was the only other woman in action, claiming the 35-49 title in 8min 57.82sec.
In the men’s race, South Canterbury’s George Guerin powered away to win the 3000m race in 9min 53.56sec.

Also in record-breaking form was Taieri’s Zharna Beattie.
The 17-year-old threw 44.82m in the discus to break Otago records in the 17, 18 and 19 age groups.
It was an impressive day for Beattie, breaking 44m twice and 43m twice again.

However, in the 200m he came up against Taieri’s Felix McDonald, who claimed a convincing win in 23.09sec.
