Golden State's record 24-game winning streak to start the season has come to an end in a 108-95 loss to the Bucks in Milwaukee, with interim coach Luke Walton saying the Warriors "ran out of gas".

A night after scraping past Boston in double overtime, the weary National Basketball Association champions succumbed in Milwaukee on the final stop of a seven-game road trip.

Golden State's winning streak, the longest to start a season in NBA history, is the third longest in a single season behind the Los Angeles Lakers, who won 33 in a row in 1971-72, while the Miami Heat won 27 straight in 2013.

The Bucks also stopped the Lakers' winning steak in 1972.

Stretching back to the end of last season, Golden State won 28 consecutive regular season games.

The normally sharp-shooting Warriors struggled offensively, shooting barely 40% from the floor, with guards Stephen Curry (10-for-21 for 28 points) and Klay Thompson (four-for-14 for 12 points) struggling to find their range.

"We didn't have it tonight," Walton said.

"That's why it's so hard to do what these guys have done so far. Tonight it caught up to us.

"To me, they [the Bucks] looked like they wanted it a little more tonight. We looked like we ran out of gas.

"Even if you're 24-and-1, losing still sucks."

Walton, filling in for head coach Steve Kerr, who is recovering from back surgery, said his players should be proud of their accomplishment.

"There's no reason for anyone to hang their heads in that locker room for losing that game. They've been incredible all year, and the losses are going to come.

"It's important for us to realize that hey, that was great .. but we're a quarter of the way through the regular season," he added.

"What we're trying to do is be an NBA championship team, and that requires a lot of work and getting back to the fundamentals and the basics. That's what we'll be doing after giving them a day off tomorrow.

Milwaukee, who also played the night earlier in Toronto before flying home, improved to 10-15 with the win.

Greg Monroe was the team's top scorer with 28 points.

Porter has career high in Wizards win

Otto Porter racked up a career-best 28 points to lead the hot-shooting Washington Wizards past the Dallas Mavericks 114-111 at American Airlines Center.

The Wizards (10-12) snapped an 11-game losing streak to Dallas.

Jackson leads Pistons past Pacers

Reggie Jackson led six Detroit players in double figures with 21 points and the Pistons rolled to a 118-96 victory over the Indiana Pacers at The Palace.

Jackson also dished out nine assists while backcourt partner Kentavious Caldwell-Pope approached a triple-double with 18 points, seven rebounds and a career-high eight assists.

Celtics snap Hornets four-game streak

Avery Bradley scored 23 points and Isaiah Thomas tallied 21 points and 13 assists as the Boston Celtics snapped the Charlotte Hornets' four-game winning streak with a 98-93 victory.

The Celtics (14-10) bounced back from a draining double-overtime loss to Golden State. It is the fourth straight time this season the Celtics have won on the second night of a back-to-back.

Clippers get first win in Brooklyn

The Los Angeles Clippers led almost wire to wire for their first-ever win in Brooklyn, defeating the Nets 105-100 at Barclays Center.

JJ Redick and Blake Griffin (nine rebounds) scored 21 points apiece to pace the Clippers, whose only other road win against the Nets came in East Rutherford, NJ, on December 11, 2007.

Spurs defence too good

The San Antonion Spurs - the NBA's top defensive team - held Atlanta to 25 points in the first half and romped to a 103-78 victory over the Hawks.

Kawhi Leonard scored 22 points to lead San Antonio in scoring for the 15th time. Manu Ginobili added 17 off the bench for the Spurs, who led by as many as 28 in the third quarter.

Rockets beat Lakers

James Harden and Dwight Howard delivered a strong offensive double act as the Houston Rockets outgunned the Los Angeles Lakers 126-97 at Toyota Center.

Harden scored a game-high 30 points and Howard had 18 and 12 rebounds. Reserve guard Marcus Thornton scored 18 points as Houston (12-12) won for the seventh time in nine games.

Bulls execute late to beat Pelicans

Aaron Brooks scored 15 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Chicago Bulls to a 98-94 win against the New Orleans Pelicans at United Center.

Brooks, a reserve guard, finished with 17 points and hit three three-pointers in the fourth. Derrick Rose finished with just nine points but hit a clutch fade-away jumper with 11.5 seconds left to put the Bulls (13-8) up by four.
